Wonderful post, bignose. Detailed, very thorough, and – a shocker on the Internet – well written. Things I really liked:

1) The card approach, everything on quick reference cards for both play and presentation. Great way to do things. Combined with your simple one-page GURPS overview, it's practically a "game in a deck".

2) Starting with action. I've really come to appreciate fiction that starts with a bang, and agree that it translates excellently to gaming as well. If I look back on sessions where my GMing hasn't gone over so great, it seems they share one thing in common: too much time spent on the equivalent of a TV show's lame "establishing shot". Better to jump right in to action, and get to background later!

All in all, the article is a nice playbook for a newbie GM, or a GM with newbie players. Or even an old-hand GM wanting to spice up a game with jaded old-hand players. Thanks foe the tips! I'll give the article a deserved push on my site.

This is absolutely wonderful, and I will be using it as reference with the D&D campaign I'm running with a new group of players, no doubt in my mind.

Keep up the good work!
