Treasure Tables is on hiatus as of December 13th, 2007 -- after two years of daily posts, I needed a break. If you're looking for GMing material, I have two recommendations: the hundreds of posts in TT's archives, and my new project, the multi-author GMing blog Gnome Stew. Happy GMing! -- Martin

Mastering Your GM-Fu at GenCon 2006

Wed. April 26, 2006

I’m pleased to announce that GenCon has approved a seminar that I’m involved in for this year’s con! It’s called Mastering Your GM-Fu, and it’ll take place on Saturday, August 12th at 1:00 PM.

It’s going to be a free panel discussion on shoring up your weak points as a GM, with Zachary Houghton, Vicki Potter, Martin Ralya (that’d be me) and Phil Vecchione as the four panelists. You can read our GMing bios on the seminar page here on TT; we’ll also be adding info to that page over the coming weeks.

If you’re going to GenCon Indy this year, we’d love to see you there!

Congratulations! Oh how I wish GC was still in Milwaukee so I could make it for this!

Suggestion: could we get a transcript of the seminar? Or maybe a podcast? Woooo, technology!

Khan!!! Too bad I’m not going this year, I’d be there in a heartbeat.

I second the vote for a podcast, if possible.

Do you think I could for this kind of seminar towards Continuing Education? ;)

We’re tossing around added-value options, including some to put on the web after the seminar is over, but I don’t think podcasting or transcripts have come up yet — those are both excellent ideas!

Transcripts sound very work intensive — is there a painless way to do this?

I’m not sure what’s involved in podcasting. Do we just need to record the seminar, maybe with a mic and tape recorder on the panel table, and then digitize that?

I’m all for the podcast, if we can work out the technical details…

Martin, for the Podcast, try getting a hold of Chris Hoffman, he’s the podministrator for the Starting Now Podcast. I know that he’s rigged up an MP3 player to record MP3s on the go and has had a pretty successful setup for a regular recording of his podcast. I’m sure he’d have plenty of ideas for you.

We might be able to convince one of the gaming ‘radio’ groups to add their expertise.

You might want to talk to the Gen Con folks, I’d imagine they’ll be podcasting some events, so they might have folks at the ready . . . .or they may not have considered it and really like the idea!

Yeah, Martin, that’s an idea. We may want to hit up the fellas from AGC for advice.
