I'm running a campaign website of my own, i have material on there that wouldn't be quite legal to share so I'm going to skip the URL.

Anyway I'm using a wiki for it (http://twiki.org/ to be exact). Wiki's are a style of website that are made for multiple users and ease of updating. The key idea is that creating a new page is as easy as using a wikiword in the middle of the text. The above web site can explain it far better than I can.

Anyway It is quite easy to add new pages and to link to existing pages. NPC's, location, magic items and all the other myriad of details that a campaign must keep track of can be created, linked from within index pages and journal entries.

There are many varieties of wiki and if you can put up a web site at all there should be at least 1 variety that will work on your host.

That's a great suggestion! I know about wikis, but I've never used one for a game -- it's an interesting idea, and well worth a look.

(Why mention sharing material illegally, though? It's not relevant to your post in any way.)

I imagined someone might ask for the URL and I couldn't share it so I wanted to explain why i couldn't share it.

Fair enough. :)

How long have you been using a wiki for your game? What pitfalls -- if any -- have you run into?

I've been using it for a running campaign that is now 14months old. I have 1532 topics in the wiki, mostly NPC, location and magic item write ups but all of my house rules, legends, histories, stories, character journals (though they aren't that great about keeping those up to date). It is a valuable part of my campaign.

That's pretty damned impressive. Sounds like a great tool for a detail-oriented game. :)
